Constraints on Star Forming Regions and Starburst Galaxies from SWS Spectroscopy

Michele Thornley

We present new analyses of the properties of starburst activity in galaxies, utilizing the atomic fine structure lines in the SWS bandpass. In this approach, the properties of nearby "template" sources such as Galactic HII regions and nearby starburst regions are combined with photoionization models in order to try to constrain the physical conditions in starburst nuclei at greater distances.
