PHT-S measurements which suffer from memory effects

Each target measurement with P40 is preceded by a 'pseudo' measurement of 32 seconds in dark instrument configuration. This measurement offers an assessment whether the output signals of the PHT-S detectors are affected by a memory introduced by a preceding P40 observation.

For example, in case the preceding P40 observation involved a source with bright spectral features, the signals of the pixels that detected the features could still be in a downward transient while the pseudo dark was taken. It is also found that different pixels in the PHT-S array show different transient behaviour. This can cause artifacts in the spectrum, especially after observing a strong continuum source.

This file gives a quantitative analysis in the assessment of impact of memory effects on PHT-S staring mode observations. Chopped observations should not be affected, since the differential measurement mode should cancel out this effect. They are therefore not listed, except for a few ones with very strong memory effect.

The effect is only small, however for the first
observation on the revolution unexpected. Before the
science window opened a delta-v manoeuvre was performed.
Although the period between activation and opening of
science window was longer for this revolution the
activation was later than usual relative to the passage
of the radiation belts. This might have had an impact on
the curing and memory time constants.

chopper mirror looking onto the FCS. This measurement
